How to choose the right sink
Choosing the right sink for your kitchen is about more than just replacing
the basin. In fact, one could argue that the kitchen sink is one of the
most important choices you will make in a kitchen upgrade since it will
affect your daily life for many years to come. In the selection process,
you will want to choose a durable sink material that not only looks great,
but provides long-lasting results. The experienced contractors at Tops
Kitchen will walk you through all of the options, taking into account
your goals and budgetary needs to help you determine which products best
fit your requirements. Then, the selection process begins.
Here are a couple of things to consider before making your final decision:
How many bins and in what configuration?
Gone are the days when a sink was just a single opening. In addition to
large single sinks, you can now choose from two basins of differing sizes
or two basins of equal sizes. Single sinks are great for soaking large
pots or prepping large quantities of food while two basins allow you to
perform separate tasks at the same time. Basins of differing sizes are
handy if you want to clean up in the large basin while prepping food in
the smaller one, but the smaller basin makes it hard to wash and soak
large pans. Basins of equal size are great for symmetry, but that large
pan is now soaking on the counter.
Undermount sink vs drop in stainless steel
An undermount sink is great for wiping food straight into the sink, preventing
crumbs or grime from getting stuck under the rim. Undermount sinks can
also help you reclaim up to half a square foot of counter space. However,
they usually cost more than drop-in sinks and faucets must be attached
directly to the countertop or wall.
Drop-in sinks are more traditional, mounted from above with a lip that
rests on the countertop. They are usually less expensive and more versatile
than undermount sinks, but they are harder to clean.
